Sponsors lead with Mourad for the Hatton’s Grace Bar One Racing Hurdle
Friday, 2 December 2011
Declarations for the Fairyhouse Jump Racing Weekend promises to thrill racing fans at Fairyhouse Racecourse this weekend. Sunday’s feature races have attracted some of the top Irish trained horses.
The Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase has attracted Cheltenham hero First Lieutenant who has already won 2 Grade 3 Novice Chase contests along with impressive Navan winner Bog Warrior and Rivage D’Or who will also be supporting the Gigginstown colours of Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary. The field is completed with Paul Nolan’s pair of Alpha Ridge and Shinrock Paddy along with popular Monaghan trainer Oliver Brady’s Imperial Shabra.
The Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle again sees a strong Gigginstown House team of Il Fenomeno and Midnight Game bidding for victory. Willie Mullins also saddles impressive Fairyhouse maiden winner Sous Les Cieux. The field is completed by Dermot Weld’s Group 3 flat winner Galileo’s Choice, Dazzling Susie and Down Royal Grade 3 winner Miss Nomer.
The Bar One Racing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle sees Edward O’Grady’s The Real Article continue his impressive climb up the hurdling ladder as he bids for Grade 1 success at his first attempt. He will face strong opposition from Colm Murphy’s tough and consistent mare Voler La Vedette and Willie Mullins’ strong team of Cheltenham winners Final Approach and Mikael D’Haguenet along with sponsors favourite Mourad.
Saturday’s card features a wealth of competitive action and exciting horses. Sir Des Champs begins his chasing career in the Johnny Lumley Beginners Chase, while the Trinity Motor Neuron Disease Research Hurdle has attracted a competitive field of 8 headed by Jack Cool.
Racing on Saturday begins at 11.50am following the divide of the first race the Premier Jump Racing Weekend Maiden Hurdle. The first race on Sunday is 12.20pm as advertised.
Peter Roe, General Manager, Fairyhouse Racecourse commented: “The ground remains Soft to heavy, we are expecting a band of rain tonight with up to 5mm of rain and a few showers on Saturday and Sunday. There will be fresh ground for both days and I don’t see an appreciable change in the going. I am delighted for our main sponsors Bar One Racing that the racing will be competitive and informative for our Premier Jump Racing Weekend”.
Barney O’Hare, Bar One Racing commented: “All systems are go for Sunday. We are looking forward to a top class day of National Hunt Racing. Everything is in place and it looks like the weather is going to be on our side this year”.
Non-racing activity on Sunday kicks off with the Irish Field Betting Forum at 11.00am in the ground floor, Jameson Stand. Taking place before racing, the event is open to all race goers and promises to help them improve their punting techniques. BBC Racing’s betting expert Gary Wiltshire will join on-course bookmakers Barney O’Hare, David Hyland and Luke McMahon on the panel. The Irish Field will also host a racing “Meet and Greet” throughout the day and Gary Wiltshire will be on hand to sign his new book “Winning it Back”.
Grade One Sunday celebrates the countryside with a spectacular falconry display and a hound parade by the Meath Foxhounds. Bring your children as there is plenty to keep them amused with face painters, balloon modelling and the kids club ‘Front Runner’. Front Runner gives children a chance to find out a little more about racing, learn about the equipment used in the sport and have some fun. Meath Vintage Club will also display a range of classic tractors.
One of the day’s highlights is the Movember Shave Off. Jockeys and trainers have been cultivating their ‘tashes’ for the month of November. The “Movember Shave Off” will take place in the parade ring and the ground floor Jameson Stand. Bar One Racing will donate €500 to the charity to kick start the fundraising on the day. HRI’s National Hunt Ambassador Davy Russell will have his Mo shaved off by Michael O’Leary in the Fairyhouse parade ring. This is your chance to see your favourite racing personalities in the barber’s chair!
